hello!

this is a weekly feature of amazing literature that i come by during my
travels across deviantart. this is only a small sample of a vast amount
of wonderful pieces of literature written by absolutely fantastic
writers. each deviation was carefully selected from a writer's gallery
based on structure, impact and word usage. i try (try!) to feature
deviants who get less spotlight than others and i will never feature the
same person twice.

these are truly some spectacular works and i urge to you take a look! i only pick the best, you know! (;
please take the time to read through each one - seriously, it takes five minutes - and be sure to :+fav: the journal! (:

Feeling Autumnthe scent of caramel streams
in the air over burnt pecans
and brown sugar dreams
crystalized into tears held still
and silent like the
sap on a crying maple tree
and the sweet savory smoke
from the pasture no longer there
and the leaves in the barrel
down the street warming the
man's frozen fingers
as they crumble in the glowing heat
to embers lighting his face
the cold air keeps me warm
since I cuddle inside your sweater
that holds in my heat like a comfort
from within me and I catch my moments
in a cloud of breath held aloft in the air
before condensing into beads
of moisture on your skin
counting phosphenes.sometimes i imagine a couple
that can't agree on children.
so in the meantime they settle
to use protection
until they come to a conclusion.
he's poking holes in their condoms
while she sleeps and
she's taking precautionary birth control
when he turns his back.
i wonder if they're happy, anyway.
i had a dream.
i don't remember all of it, just tidbits.
i recall you setting our family's home aflame
and curling up with your notebooks in the fireplace
and shrugging when you realized you couldn't escape.
that time in the water
my lungs felt like they were on fire.
my skin prickled and i could tell my hairs were on end,
flowing in the liquid surrounding me.
and if i kill myself again
i hope i have the courage to do it in the nude.

:thumb328933243: :thumb204397134: This is How I Want YouI want you at 4am rubbing the sleep from your eyes,
sighing like the last breath
of a distant thunderstorm.
I want you in dark wash
jeans, white socks and black shoes,
pulling each article off
one
by
one
and leaving the exposed skin for me
to brush my fingertips against
and revel in the faint tremors.
I want you entangled
in my bedsheets
counting the pieces of my spine,
and the hours til dawn. I want
every synapse to crackle
with electric charge, with
anticipation;
waiting.
Waiting.
I want you,
your heavy, solid warmth
pressing down and concentrating all its force just below my navel,
to leave me struggling for air.
I want you between
the rustle of hair and the curl of toes,
between the first gasp of shock and the last
groan of bliss
(and somewhere in the middle
find the time
to breathe).

FlowersPerhaps the flipside knowledge
of my coin-toss behavior
is drifting somewhere
outside my window,
balancing on delicate
razor-point needles
and bouncing along
through the goldenrods
and St. John's Wort-
the commoners of flowers around the globe-
They grace the roadsides
and the edges of many
shaded homes - each bearing
a separate purpose
and the same
hypnotic yellow
that calls forth the name
weed.
fwoosh.iam cold.
but then again
im just really not sure.
i got a giraffe.
his name is gerald.
and sometimes
he keeps me warm.
other times he'll just stare at hippo.
(hippo stares back i think)
the blanket doesn't really do it for me anymore.
which i thought was weird
because it's pretty thick.
multicoloured too.
it had flees once
but that was all my cat's fault.
they're gone now.
i sleep on a futon.
not a bed.
i don't like beds.
i would even prefer a couch
to my current sleeping arrangements.
maybe that's wrong too.
sometimes it's just my feet.
and other times it's just a couple of fingers.
and i'll criss and cross
tuck and fold.
but most of the time it doesn't work.
i think i'd like to burn the whole place down.
but that's illegal
so i'll just set myself on fire instead.
(whoops)
porcelain is stained with deathi was so afraid
to see your
corpse
smooth relentlessness
entwined
with echoing faze.
the ravens had
methylated breaths
and
were inquiring
the way you tossed
your hips
on sunday.
porcelain was now
blotched with
ink,
a gaping ornament of your
death.
leave.
i scraped my dry knees
when i landed
beside your niche
casket,
and it was like
when we were six,
and you tried to
coax
my forename
out of hiding.
it rained
and the gushing mud
was pestering
sweet sorrow
beneath my
black skirt.
but i stayed
with
you.

i'm having a rough time with everything lately. school work is overwhelming and i'm worried about how i'm going to manage nanowrimo when exams start just a week after it finishes. my cat was very sick in the past few months and her health deteriorated extremely quickly in the past week, and because of this we had to put her to sleep this saturday - it would have been cruel to let her suffer any longer. the house is very lonely, and my dad seems very lost. later that evening i had to go to my cousin's wedding and it was really tough to keep a brave face. and i may have drank too much. anyway, tough weekend, and i will probably not be getting to all the deviations in my inbox anytime soon. don't expect any writing from me either in the next while, i just have too much to do :aww:
